Rave picked up on the heavy chuckle and the fact it wasn't a happy one even before Devon started talking. It seemed the guy had a guilt trip and a part of him didn't blame him while another was thankful that he helped him out.
"Devon... yoah dunn undahstand, do yoah?"
Rave let go of him and cupped both his cheeks and made him turn his head up to meet his storm blue eyes. He searched the dark brown ones for a moment before he spoke again.
"Yoah ahr one of very few people tha' can actually ge' me ou' of those nightmares... Apparentleh yoah can ge' me into one as well, bu' tha' means yoah know my limit of wha' I can take... 'ell... even I don't know tha' 'alf the times..."
He shook his head, disagreeing with what he said next.
"No. Yoah ahr a good person. At least in my eyes an' tha's wha' counts at the moment' yeah? Yoah 'ad the option of no' bringin' me out at all, bu' yoah did. Yoah did an' tha's wha' mattahs."
He said, making sure Devon looked into his eyes while he was talking, should he try to look away he'd force him to look back again.
Once he'd fallen silent, he just ended up looking into those beautiful deep, brown eyes and just couldn't help himself but to lean in and kiss him on the lips softly, testing to see if he was allowed to at least kiss or if that was off limits as well. Cuddling was loving, wasn't it? That wasn't taking advantage of... right?

Devon sighed and accepted the kiss, even if he couldn't accept the forgiveness. He leaned heavily against Rave for a moment, buried his face in the other boys shoulder. "I'll be better later, after a shower maybe." He mumbled into the skin, patched with smooth and scar rough.
He stood back up. "Hey, how cool is it your walking around your own house with out a shirt on? That's progress, right?" He smiled weakly with a squeeze to Rave's shoulder. "I'm going to jump in the shower, then I'll make a list and clean up my mess."
He took a few steps away before calling out over his shoulder, "Though I should switch rooms with you, since now mine spells like beer and cigarettes. I hate cigarettes" He said, unconsciously rubbing his burn as he rounded the corner.

Rave made a light mine of pain when Devon's forehead landed on the scar but said nothing about it. Instead he let his friend stay there even though he clearly didn't accept his forgiveness.
"eh..unh... guess it is eh?.. didn't think abo't it until I sat down on a' the table. On the otha' 'and... it's just us 'ere. No one else can see me."
He added and shrugged some. He was avoiding every question he threw at him, and he didn't accept what Rave said. Once Devon broke free talking about shower, Rave peered at his back for a moment and grabbed his wrist before he could get too far.
"Devon..."
He said with a bit of authority in his voice and pulled him back and placed his back against the wall just by the doorway to the kitchen.
"Fi'st off... wha' I remembah, I 'aven't smoked inside.. the beer I can undahstand tho.. an' second."
He added, looking directly into Devon's eyes while holding him by his shoulders to make sure he stayed put but without hurting him.
"Yoah 'ave avoided evereh single quiestion I've given to yoah since yoah go' up from tha chair. Now yoah're avoidin' me. Why?"
He asked, intense storm blue eyes looked deep into bronze ones.
"... Accept wha' I'm tellin' yoah and do tha' by 'eart okay.. It's no' easeh fo' me to say eitha tha' I'm sorreh ohr tha' I fo'give someone. Bu' yoah some'ow manage to bring tha' ou' of me an' I mean evereh word of it, yoah betta take it seriously."
He wasn't upset but he did have a stern look on his face. He didn't want any fooling around or walking around the issue and clearly Devon had an issue right now that he wasn't telling him or were completely honest about.

"You didn't smoke inside, I did. Silly of me, I know, when I hate them." He said after Rave started his piece and held him in place.
"I'm not trying to avoid your questions, I just feel really...brittle...right now. And I need to to step back a bit again to regroup, OK?" He bit his lip and looked down at the floor between them. "I'm glad your ready to forgive me, but, I hope you can understand I need to be ready to accept it." He looked back up. "It's not that I don't believe you mean it, but...have you ever read the Bible? There's a bit about where you plant your seeds. I'm pretty rocky soil."
He chuckled. "I need to spread some more shit around before anythings gonna grow."
He grabbed the back of Rave's neck and bumped foreheads with him. "Can you give me the time?"

Rave's eyes softened a bit when Devon spoke up again. Devon smoked inside? He didn't even smoke! His eyes fell down to the burn mark on Devon's stomach and instantly understood why he had even lit up.
"oh.."
He said and looked back up again to meet those beautiful eyes even though they showed some inner turmoil. Rave's grip softened on the shoulders they were holding onto.
"mh.. yeah... I know tha' feelin'. Just... please, be 'onest with me and 'ow yoah feel, yeah?"
He chuckled a bit.
"No, I dunn read the bible.. I run as fahr away from any religious books as I can. 'ad a nanny once who was super religious... I made 'er insane eventually. Thought I was the devil 'imself incarnated."
He said and grinned some.
"If yoah'r rocky soil, I'm tha fuckin' desert. No mattah 'ow much shit yoah spread around theah... yoah'r nevah gonna get it ta grow!"
He replied when they bumped foreheads together, Rave closed his eyes for a moment and placed his hands on Devon's shoulders closer to his neck but in a caring matter.
"Yeah... I can. Just... lemme know one thing fi'st.. okay? ... is soft core allowed or is everythin' off limits?"
He said, repeating his question again and moved his right hand from his shoulder and tipped Devon's chin up once again as if to kiss him, but instead he just looked into his eyes as if waiting for a yes or a no on what to do next.

"How can I be honest about what I feel when I haven't figured out what I feel yet? You..." Devon struggled to say something but was unable to get the words out.
Devon shook his head ruefully with a short harsh laugh. "I'm not sure what you mean by soft core, but if I'm not suppose to jerk off if I can avoid it...It sounds like it might be off limits."
"Can I go now?" He asked instead, clearly beginning to struggle with something. "I'm not comfortable. I can't be introspective anymore today, I have to have some space."
Devon pulled away from Rave. "I'm not rejecting you right now, I just need some space, k?" He said even as he retreated.
He locked the door to the bathroom and leaned against it. Seeing himself in the mirror he asked the image, "I can't handle my own problems, how am I supposed to handle someone else's?"
The mirror had no answers for him, so he got into the shower and let the hot water beat down on him and leech away some of the stress before he noticed his band aides were coming unstuck and clogging the drain. "Fuck," He said and began to laugh at the absurdity of it. He turned off the water and reached for a towel and there wasn't one. "Double fuck."

"No, wha' I mean is... when yoah Do find somethin' out.. I'd like you to tell me. I'm not fo'sin yoah to do it of course. Bu' I just think it'd be good if we both did this, might clear things up in the long run eh?"
He said and let Devon go the instant he started to look comfortable. He smiled at his friend however even though he just wanted to hold him close and say everything was fine and hold him there until he actually got the message.
"Soft core... yoah know... kissin', cuddlin' tha' kinda stuff.. no gropin' involved"
He said while Devon started to walk out of the kitchen.
"By tha way.. I took care of the blood an' mess befoah I go' into the kitchen earlier."
He said as Devon's back disappeared as he walked out of the kitchen all together. Rave turned around and faced the dishes and sighed somewhat and started to clean up what Devon didn't finish.
"I know yoah'r no' rejectin' me Dev... I'm just worryin' about yoah.."
He said to himself. It didn't take long until he was done with the dishes and he walked out to take care of the dirty sheets, making sure to take some more of Devon's white or at least light colored clothes with him in the go. They were somewhat scattered around the room anyway so he just picked it up and walked over to the washing machine and filled it up before turning it on.
Rave got dressed in his usual worn, black jeans and a black t-shirt and took the smokes from his nightstand along with the lighter and went outside after putting his boots on again. He let the door be somewhat open just to be seen that he was outside but not really letting the smoke get in the house since Devon clearly didn't like it.
He leaned down on the railing and watched the people move around down below while lighting one of his smokes and put it to his lips. Kids were playing across the street, cars driving by, people talking. Someone seemingly to move out of the place while others seemed to have a sunbath in the sun.

The phone began to ring, but neither of them were able to answer it before the answering machine picked up. A accented voice left the following message:
"This is for Mr. Devon Eckes in regards to Mr. Adien Hamilton. There has been a family emergency and if Mr. Adien contacts you please have him contact his family immediately, or, if you know his whereabouts, contact the Hamilton Hotels via the 800 number and ask for Mr. Gray in Security. Thank you."

With nothing else to do for it Devon picked up his boxers and held them in front of him to peek out the doorway. The front door was open a crack, which meant that Rave was probably outside smoking in the hallway. He wondered, briefly, if they'd get any complaints.
Rooting for a towel he discovered they, and the sheets, were missing. Rave apparently was on a good housekeeping kick.
With nothing else to use Devon toweled off with a clean T shirt as the phone began to ring. Hopping into some clean briefs he dashed for the phone, but the answering machine picked up instead.
The polished voice halted him in his tracks as he listened as the message played out, then a hum and click of the machine disconnecting. He looked up and saw Rave in the doorway.
"Wow, that was fast. They must have been watching you like a hawk, even if you didn't realize it." He said as water dripped down his back from his hair in icy fingers.

Rave was snatched out of his thoughts of life in general when he heard the phone ringing. He instantly killed the cigarette by flicking the glow off and pinched it shut so it choked while he turned towards the front door and entered it.
Just as he entered, he froze and just stared at the answering machine as the british voice echoed on the answering machine. His left hand still held the door knob and a look of almost terror stared at the small black box while it beeped and started to blink to show there was one unread message on it.
It took him a moment or two to reflect that Devon had spoken to him and he had to tear his eyes away from the answering machine on the table to meet his friend's eyes.
"...Gray"
He voiced quietly and looked back at the answering machine while swallowed hard. If they connected him to Devon already, he wasn't that well off here. The first instinct he had was to run away but where?
Rave flicked around to look outside before he shut the door behind him and leaned on it heavily while still holding the knob but now behind his back.
"...tha' bloody git!"
He closed his eyes and smacked his forehead against his left palm in an attempt to shake his brain back on track to think things through. He felt haunted and unsafe, his eyes darted around as if searching for something. That fucker could have been so smart as if to plant a tracker somewhere!
Rave started to search his his coat, every seam and button, his jewelery and when he didn't find anything, he stormed towards his guitars to feel them up inch by inch before he went on to the rest of his things. Gray was smart and he'd aim for something he knew Rave wouldn't let go of that easily, the question was what if he did plant a tracker at all, but the posibility was quite big that he had.
He was the guy that tipped off bothering people, making people disappear as well as cleaning up messes that Rave as well as his dad made just to make sure the surface was crystal clear on the outside.
"Fuck!"

"Hey, settle down." Devon didn't try to touch Rave when he was in this state. "Let me make a call, k? I'll find out how they got the number easily enough, it's only been in service two days. OK?"
As Rave started rummaging through his things, feeling them up for something Devon padded over to the phone and pulled up caller ID. Blocked. But, that was sort of a given considering. He picked up the phone and dialed a number he knew by heart.
"Hey sis, did anyone call for me? Yeah? No, if it's a family emergency, I totally understand. Did he show up at the house, cause, I'm gonna call this guy and tell him what I know, but if he showed up there....um..." Devon tilted his head to shake some water out of his ear as he listened to Anya. "No, I understand, you have to pack, you don't miss me, you don't love me, and you don't want to talk to me." He grinned at the chatter at the other end. "Hey, if I have to sell my own blood I'll be at your first show, I promise. Just give me advance notice, it's a long flight. Love you to. Bye."
He pointed at Rave and said sternly. "No matter what I say, be very quiet, alright? What's the ...no...I need to look it up." He dialed 411. "A lot of crooks get caught by simple mistakes like that. The 800 number for Hamilton Hotels please..." He nodded as he got the number. "Thank you."
He disconnected the phone and dialed the number he got from directory assistance, then had to push a lot of buttons to get to a live person who put him on hold, the entire time watching Rave pace.
"Mr. Gray?" He said finally. "This is Devon Eckes, my sister said you got my number from her because of a family emergency for Rave? It took me a while to get through to you, I was in the shower in the first place and then you didn't even leave me a number....Had to look it up." He listened for a moment.
"Yeah, well, he did show up. But, see...I don't know how much you know about him, but..." He managed to sound nervous and offended at the same time. "We were roommates, so, there were things ...at school...Well, I don't have to do them anymore. He came here expecting things to be the same...and that's never going to happen again. I'll call the cops on him if he ever comes around again....Ah, so you know how he is.... He said something like 'I'm going to be famous' and said he was going to LA, so, if you're looking for him, I'd try there. I will...do you have his email? Try that. OK, thanks."
He hung up the phone. "Was I convincing?" He asked, looking over at Rave. "You know, for the time being, you might want to consider toning down a bit, maybe go back to your natural color?"

"Yoah do tha' ... I'm no' stoppin' wha' I'm doin'"
He said and went on to his guitar cases and laptop to see if he'd find anything there. After a while he calmed down a bit in his search and started to do it more systematically and thorough. He also made sure to re-search what he started with since it'd been quite rushed.
While Devon called he just grunted a "sure" and moments later he heard his friend talk to his sister on the phone, he didn't really pay much attention on it since he was going through everything he owned and had taken with him.
He kept on searching his clothes and everything and came up with nothing while Devon talked to Mr. Gray on the phone. He froze when Devon said what he did but he was smarter than to bitch about it while having Gray that close as to hear him. Besides, what Devon had said earlier that morning rang more true to him than the words he said to Gray now.
LA huh? Rave calmed down a bit while hearing Devon cover for him. He really was a true friend but he was into a lot of shit if they found out he'd been lying to them. Rave inhaled and let a big sigh escape as he sat down against the wall with a mess around him with his things scattered about on the floor.
"...nothing."
He mumbled to himself and closed his eyes for a moment and nodded towards Devon.
"yeah.. yoah were"
He agreed then flicked his eyes up and stared at his friend as if he was the devil himself. Go back to his natural hair?! That was like cursing in church to his ears!

Devon barked out a laugh at the look of horror on Rave's face at his suggestion. "Sorry, the look on your face is priceless. OK, OK, let me think." He rubbed his hands over his eyes and arched backward.
"Clean this up a bit while I get dressed. That cell phone I called, did you get that from them? Take the battery out, now. Right friggin' now." Then he paused. "Never mind, don't...Ok, road trip, yeah, that'll work. We have to take a road trip. Set up your 'trail' for them to follow. I was worried it'd be too soon after the call, but, really, of course it would be, I just moved here..." Devon was more muttering to himself than to Rave as he went back into the bedroom to throw on some clothes.
When he came back out he was buckling his belt. "Grab that phone, the credit card and half the cash and go out the back way. I'll pick you up in the car in front of the cafe, alright?"

Rave wasn't sure if he'd look insulted or laugh with Devon as he just burst out laughing like that. A light smile formed on his lips as he rolled his eyes and exited a "tch!" at him.
"Hey... if yoah dunn cu'se in church... I won't give yoah tha' look eitha"
He smirked and began to put things back where they were supposed to be, folding clothes into his bags again since he hadn't had the time to unpack just yet. After all, there weren't that many drawers in there so far and the one that was there, Devon had with his personal stuff.
"Yeah, it is..It's usually off though bu' I think I forgot to turn it off last night.."
He admitted. Which made it even more dangerous to stay here. He rose in an instant.
"should I take my stuff with me in case they come lookin' fo' me 'ere? or traces of me 'ere anyway..."
He asked since Devon seemed to be the sharp mind in this matter even though Rave had the upper hand on knowing how Mr.Gray worked.
"Road trip... should I make muffins too then?"
He asked and chuckled somewhat at the amusement on this entire matter. It was quite thrilling to say the least even though he was a bit stressed out in the matter as well.
"Okay... see yoah there then"
He said and instantly started towards the back door.
"Yoah take my bags, I take the guitars yeah? Can't climb with two bags"
He stated and opened the back door and disappeared.

"Road trip... should I make muffins too then?"
"Why not, we're leaving a trail of bread crumbs.." Devon said as Rave cleaned up.
"Yoah take my bags, I take the guitars yeah? Can't climb with two bags" Rave said and took off.
Devon rolled his eyes and rather than pick up the bags to go, he tossed them in the closet of Rave's room. It was too late to call him back and explain and now rather than just another bleached blond out on the street there was one with guitars...not obvious at all. But then again, maybe it was just Rave's paranoia sneaking in. No one would come around asking if the plan worked out right.
Until he met Rave Devon didn't realize how much of the criminal mind he'd soaked up over dinner at home. Slip ups and folly's of the clients was something his parents chortled over as good dinner conversation.
He got the car and rolled down the windows as he drove around the corner to pick up Rave since it was hot and stuffy.
Rave stood, all in black, of course, be-studded, with his axe cases...
"So subtle." Devon muttered to himself.
